Gastroenterologists perform a variety of procedure-intense treatments including biopsies, endoscopies, colonoscopies, ERCPs, and EUSs.To qualify for gastroenterology jobs, candidates begin their journey with a pre-med undergraduate degree followed by four years of medical school and a 2-3 year residency program in internal medicine. Hopeful Gastroenterologists must also complete a fellowship for up to three years and be certified by the American board of Internal Medicine.
