A physician CV, sometimes also referred to as a physician resume, differs slightly from a cover letter. While these two documents contain the same information, they are formatted differently.

Your CV should make you stand out against other physicians, and is an in-depth summary of your education and work history which outlines your ability to practice medicine. The document includes your history in medical school, internships, residency, and fellowship. You should be updating your CV as you complete medical school, internships, residency, and any fellowship(s) you may complete. Also, while a cover letter is similar to a physician CV, it doesn't go as in-depth as a physician CV does. For information on how they differ, click here.

It's important to continue to update your information throughout medical school, and even after you finish your fellowship and have begun to practice medicine, as you will need to submit your CV when you are applying for new jobs. Your CV will be accompanied by a personal statement, but you should rely heavily on your CV to land you the opportunities for which you are applying. Once you have finished crafting your professional CV, you can submit your CV for review. From there, one of our CV experts will give your CV a rating of red, yellow, or green to indicate the quality of your CV.
