Job Description

Participates in meeting the overall clinical physics needs of the Radiation Oncology Section as the Lead Physicist for the Manchester, NH clinic. Utilizes general concepts guiding Radiation Therapy Clinical Physics in the technical area including Linear accelerator QA, treatment planning needs and special treatment procedures.

Responsibilities

  1. Serves as Lead Medical Physicist for the Manchester, NH clinic, coordinating with departmental leadership to meet the needs of the Manchester clinic and maintain, and optimize, safety and the quality of care.
  2. Participates in the clinical aspects of radiation therapy treatment planning, including, but not limited to, maintaining a working familiarity with patient dosimetry, participating in patient plan and chart checking activities, participating in 3-D or IMRT treatment planning, etc.
  3. Participates in special treatment procedures, treatment planning, and treatment delivery including, but not limited to, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) and GTC frame fitting, HDR treatment planning, prostate seed/strand implants, IMRT treatment techniques implementation and IMRT QA, etc.
  4. Participates in routine physics QA program, including, but not limited to, linear accelerator calibration and monthly/annual mechanical and dosimetry, CT-simulator, OBI and CBCT, Brachytherapy, etc.
  5. Provides instruction in Radiation Oncology Physics and Radiation Safety to residents, fellows, radiation therapists, radiation physicists, radiation oncologists, nurses, and biomedical engineers.
  6. Engages in original or ongoing research programs. Presents status and findings at departmental, regional, and national meetings. Publishes findings in peer reviewed journals.
  7. Attends tumor boards and chart rounds.
  8. Acquires continuing education credits to fulfill requirements of maintenance of board certification.
  9. Acts as a member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM). Participates in continuing education opportunities and attends selected meetings. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field of Radiation Therapy Physics.
  10. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Radiation Physics, Radiological Health or allied field with 2 years of postgraduate clinical experience at a major radiotherapy center. Additional experience preferred.

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Board certification or eligibility for certification, by either the American College of Radiology (ACR) or the American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP).
