The Virginia Mason Franciscan Health - St. Joseph Internal Medicine Residency Program is pleased to announce one opening for its outpatient chief resident position for the 2025-2026 academic year.
We opened our doors to our first intern class in June 2023. As chief resident in a new program, you will have the unique opportunity to help build and shape our program. Becoming a chief resident in our program is a highly rewarding experience that allows you to make a meaningful impact on both students and residents, hone your teaching and leadership skills, and to think creatively on how to grow a new residency program. You will be challenged from an academic and leadership perspective.
At the time of your chief resident year we will have 39 internal medicine residents. We are nestled in the heart of downtown Tacoma, WA, and offer a highly competitive salary and leadership opportunities. Our current structure is a 1.0 FTE split between clinical and administrative duties.
There are 5 dimensions of a chief resident you will be asked to participate in:
1.Scheduling, planning, and facilitating individual resident and educational conferences
2.Participating in recruitment activities for our next class of physicians
3.Planning, teaching, and implementing our primary care curriculum
4.Precepting in our outpatient internal medicine clinic as an attending physician
5.Participating in quality improvement, patient safety, and/or scholarly activities with residents
