Division Director, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism

The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek an exceptional academic physician-scholar with proven leadership skills to lead a nationally recognized program as the director of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, an academic unit within the Department of Internal Medicine. Reporting to Rama Mallampalli, MD, chair of the Department of Internal Medicine, the incoming division director must be passionate about building collaborative clinical and research programs of excellence, mentoring outstanding junior faculty, and continuing to advance the Ohio State endocrinology program on the national/international stage. Academic rank and compensation commensurate with academic record and experience.
 
Position Overview

The Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism is committed to excellence in clinical care, the education of medical students, residents, fellows and other learners and to new discoveries to improve the care of patients with endocrine and endocrine-related disorders through laboratory, translational and clinical research. The division has excelled with a long history of outstanding performance in all of these areas and has recognized programs in diabetes, thyroid cancer and other thyroid disorders, adrenal and pituitary disorders and metabolic bone disease. The Division is supported by The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Wexner Medical Center, and The James Cancer Hospital.

Duties and Responsibilities
   · Ensuring Ohio State’s exceptional Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism builds upon its incredible achievements and innovative research, outstanding clinical care, strong outcomes, and the education of the next generation of endocrinologists.
   · Lead and oversee the administrative operations of the division.
   · Establish, in association with faculty members, divisional directions, goals, and programs in support of the Department of Internal Medicine and the College of Medicine.
   · Responsible for the implementation of new policies and initiatives to enhance patient care across all clinical programs in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism. 
   · Responsible for the budget and financial performance of the division. 
   · Oversees mentorship and faculty development throughout the division.
   · Constructs opportunities for faculty to become recognized experts in their chosen sub-specialty.
   · Recruit and retain top talent in the division.
   · Promote a diverse gender, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic environment within the faculty, APP, fellows, etc. 
   · Develop and expand academic, clinical, and basic research activities.
   · Enhance patient volumes, safety, and quality care.
   · Monitor quality metrics and identify strategies for continuous improvement.
   · Working closely with institutional development to enhance the philanthropic endeavors of the department and the division. 
   · Foster the procurement of funding and organizes research endeavors in the area of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism.
   · Assist faculty in funding initiatives. 
   · Facilitate interdisciplinary collaborations and promotes research collaboration. 
   · Strategically build patient care delivery platforms/programs in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings.
   · Promote the division, department, and college by participating in national research and professional activities. 
   · Instruct medical students, residents, fellows and other learners in formal lectures, patient care, and research.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will be a national leader in endocrinology. Ideally, the successful candidate will have:
   · 8-10 minimum years of strong faculty clinical, academic, and mentorship experience.
   · Experience with service line development and implementation.
   · MD, DO, or equivalent. 
   · Board certified in Endocrinology.
   · Strong track record of clinical operations leadership.
   · Demonstrated leadership skills in building innovative programs as well as recruiting and retaining faculty.
   · Commitment to recruitment, development, and retention of women, underserved minorities, and disability status. 
   · Eligibility for Ohio medical licensure required.
   · National reputation for teaching. 
   · An active research program in basic, translational, clinical, or health services research is strongly desired.
