Palliative Care Physician position open in beautiful Loma Linda, CA!!

The Loma Linda VA has an opening for an energetic, driven, and compassionate Palliative Care Physician.

 

Facility Details: VA Loma Linda Healthcare System is actively seeking a full-time Hospice and Palliative Care physician. Candidates must be Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship trained and Board Certified/Board Eligible in Hospice & Palliative Medicine. The successful candidate will work closely with our inpatient and outpatient care teams with patients requiring advanced illness and palliative care consultations.

The VA Loma Linda Healthcare system is affiliated with Loma Linda University Health Medical School. Teaching of medical students, residents and fellows is an integral part of the position. The position provides an outstanding opportunity for individuals committed to an academic career in clinical care, teaching and research and requires excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to team building.

 

Position Details:

  • Provide primary medical care/treatment services to assigned areas collaborate with mid-level practitioners as assigned.
  • Adhere to established policies and processes.
  • Comply with all CPRS documentation procedures.
  • Comply with local and national performance measures.
  • Provide consistent customer service with patients/families, staff, facility management, etc.
  • Provide prompt diagnostic assessment and evaluation, including full history and physical exam, appropriate labs, radiological imaging, consultations, documentation of the evaluation and appropriate coding for billing in progress notes, communication with admitting teams, and discharge planning on all patients.
  • Review all Outlook email communications prior to completing his/her duty shift Complete and sign all electronic medical records and all orders prior to the completion of each duty shift. Consistent with current medical staff by-laws, all transcribed electronic medical record documents must be signed within twenty-four (24) hours of the encounter regardless of the duty schedule.
  • Complete all patient encounters (note) within twenty-four hours of patient visit.
  • Meet all performance goals.
  • Participate in Process Improvement activities involving hospice and palliative care related to quality metrics and unannounced surveys.

 

Community Highlights: Spectacular Loma Linda, (Spanish for Beautiful Hill) CA., is nestled in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains. The city is located approximately 60 miles east of Los Angeles in San Bernardino County. While it is near the highly developed job market of Los Angeles and Orange Counties, it does provide a small-town setting for your home, work, or recreation. Federal Retirement Plan:

  • VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits, 2) FERS-RAE basic benefits (pension), and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan
  • How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the employee’s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 16.6% of the employee’s salary
  • Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2020, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $19,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $25,500.
  • The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
  • For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
  • In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel

  • Employees are vested in a federal pension after only 5 years service
