Chief Purpose of This Position:
The Department of Radiation Oncology at Virginia Commonwealth University is looking to hire a board-eligible or board-certified full-time clinical faculty Radiation Oncologist with an interest in multi-specialty Oncology with specific interest and experience in adolescent and pediatric services. The individual hired into this position will serve as one of our primary clinical Radiation Oncologists for our downtown Richmond, VA facilities, primarily servicing our inpatient population by providing consultative and external beam radiotherapy treatment services and being responsible for quality of care within this population. Additionally, this position will serve as a key lead in the continued development of adolescent and pediatric services, including a survivorship clinic.

Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate holds a MD or DO degree or equivalent and is either board-certified or board-eligible in Radiation Oncology or its equivalent; brings a dedication to clinical practice and to collegial multidisciplinary care in a community setting; and has demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU. The primary clinical function of this position will be servicing the inpatient population. The incoming candidate would require experience and commitment to a majority of clinical dedication to this space as we seek coverage for no less than 3 days a week.
Preferred Qualifications:
Interest in clinical research is also desirable, as our focus to be leaders in cancer innovation is at the forefront of our mission for all Radiation Oncology Department providers.
Established in 1987, VCU’s Department of Radiation Oncology provides a full range of clinical services at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center and its regional affiliated facilities. Our department is comprised of over 30 faculty within our three divisions, spanning five clinical locations and treating approximately 150 patients per day, with active, funded programs in clinical research, medical physics, and molecular radiobiology and targeted imaging. Our team is an integral component of VCU’s Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of only two National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in Virginia. Affiliated centers are electronically linked to the main Department for the purposes of both education and QA.
Our Radiation Oncology team is highly unified and collaborative, reflecting the discipline at large. Our faculty are committed to providing exceptional and compassionate patient-focused care, conducting cutting-edge research, and educating emerging attending providers, medical physicists, and dosimetrists to contribute to the ever-evolving field of Radiation Oncology. We remain connected outside of the clinic too, as we aim to gather everyone together at least once a year, and we have an active group of runners and walkers who participate in the annual Monument Avenue 10K/Massey Cancer Center fundraiser as “The Beam Team”!
The Department supports a sizeable educational program, including a Radiation Oncology residency, Medical Physics residency, Medical Physics graduate program, and post-doctoral research programs in Physics and Biology. Our research programs are supported by multiple NCI grants as well as other extramural sources, and our team members are involved in a wide range of complementary clinical trials, both investigator-initiated and as cooperative groups.
Our full range of clinical services currently include: IMRT, image-guided brachytherapy, cone-beam CT-guided radiotherapy, on-line portal imaging, and stereotactic radiosurgery. Technologies available in our downtown facilities include: MR linac (ViewRay), PET CT simulator, and MR simulator.
