For most physicians is a critical care career work in hospital-based settings. The intensive care unit is a primary place of work. Patients seen in this specialty have a wide range of illnesses and conditions that may be common or very rare. Critical care is a specialty that does not primarily focus on one system, organ, or part of the body. Comprehensive care for the patient is provided by this type of medical professional.
