Job Description

Essential Job Duties.

  • Coverage: ELSO requires a MCS-trained physician who will provide 24-hour on-call coverage for the MCS program along with other appropriately assigned physician partners.
  • Training: Each ECMO center should have a well-defined program for ECMO physician and staff training, certification, and re-certification. This program should include: 

    Didactic lectures; 

    Laboratory training with the ECMO equipment;

    Bedside training; and

    A defined system for testing proficiency of the team members.

  • Meetings: Medical Director will chair and organize the agenda for monthly programmatic review in accordance with local Hospital, ICU and Intermountain operations meetings. In addition, Medical Director may attend quality assurance meetings in accordance with program and Hospital guidelines.
  • Program Effectiveness: Medical Director will identify and address barriers to the care of the ECMO patients (i.e., referral, patient flow and patient care) to ensure a successful integrated approach to the provision of this critical treatment to those patients.

Minimum Requirements

Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree. Education must be obtained through an ACGME or AOA accredited institution, will be verified.

ABMS or equivalent AOA Board Certification in Critical Care.
- and -
Active Utah Medical Licensure, or in process of obtaining licensure, is required.
- and -
Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

At least three years of clinical experience working in a critical care setting.
- and -
Three years of experience leading successful improvement in clinical settings.
- and -
Three years of progressive healthcare leadership experience.
- and -
Experience with change management with the ability to provide leadership in the adaptation and implementation of new processes and /or technology that enhance safety.
- and -
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
