Position Summary

The Department of Neurology at Michigan State University seeks candidates to expand its academic faculty especially those with interest in Vascular Neurology (Stroke).  We value most, individuals who wish to work within a team to help expand Neurology, teach residents and medical students along with participation in clinical and basic science research at one of the country’s great universities.

The Department of Neurology has an active and robust clinical focus and is affiliated with the MSU Neuroscience Program.  The Department has a required medical school clerkship, an active neurology residency and expanding fellowship programs including vascular neurology and neuro-intervention. 

This opportunity is a full-time academic appointment at the Assistant/Associate Professor level.  We seek candidates who are BC/BE who have completed an adult neurology residency and fellowship training in vascular neurology.

Michigan State University, in partnership with the University of Michigan Health (UMH) -Sparrow Hospital, has developed a dedicated stroke team that provides coverage at mid-Michigan’s largest comprehensive stroke center (UMH-Sparrow Hospital, the first comprehensive stroke center in the State of Michigan).  The team consists of residents, fellows, and nurse coordinators.  Development of a regional telestroke network is currently in progress. 

The clinical commitment would include a mix of inpatient and outpatient responsibilities.  The MSU Neurology outpatient clinic is part of a large multidisciplinary/multi-specialty adult and pediatric neurology clinic.  The inpatient service works closely with neurosurgery, neuro-intervention, critical care, emergency services, and rehabilitation services.

Required Degree

  • Doctorate -Medicine/Osteopathic Medicine

Minimum Requirements

  • An M.D. or D.O. is required. 
  • Successful completion of either an ACGME or AOA Neurology Residency with additional Fellowship training in Vascular Neurology (stroke). 
  • Candidates must be eligible for a physician's license in the state of Michigan.
