The successful candidate must demonstrate strong interest and prior commitment to clinical and/or basic science research. Candidates should have a history of outstanding clinical care and a strong academic commitment to the clinical training of residents and medical students. Cornea fellowship training is preferred. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with training and experience.

Currently, the Loyola Department of Ophthalmology (Maywood and 4 additional satellite offices) and neighboring Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital manage over 65,000 patient visits per year. Currently 42 clinical faculty (18 full-time and 24 part-time) provide strong mentorship and outstanding clinical expertise in all the subspecialties. A dedicated resident education team including the Program Director, the Vice Chair of Education, the Residency Coordinator and 2 co-Chief Residents manage the residency training program of four residents per year. We also have a world class VR Simulation program for training ophthalmology residents, medical students as well as residents in other subspecialties. A robust calendar of CME programs provides outstanding exposure to regional and national experts in vision research, diversity, global eye health as well as all the subspecialties with an annual city-wide surgical wet lab for the 72 residents in Chicago.

We currently have 8 full-time basic science research faculty. The main Loyola research facility is a 225K square foot Center for Translational Research and Education (CTRE), which opened in 2015 and houses the clinical Research Office (CRO) and research administration. A large HVA research facility is conveniently located nearby.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Ophthalmologist to join Loyola University Health System.
