Medical Director of Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity (EP/BC)
Position Overview
The Medical Director of Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity (EP/BC) is a key leadership role responsible for advancing CHOP’s institutional goals related to emergency preparedness, situational awareness, and ensuring a reliable system response to all threats. This position partners with the EP/BC Director to align CHOP’s preparedness efforts with its broader strategic objectives, overseeing initiatives that enhance safety, quality, and operational excellence across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Alignment: Collaborate with leadership to integrate emergency preparedness with CHOP’s goals for patient care, growth, research, and innovation.
- Leadership & Mentorship: Provide guidance to Associate Medical Directors, supporting their professional growth and ensuring the execution of institutional initiatives.
- Preparedness Activities: Oversee preparedness and response initiatives, including training and drills for mass casualty events, business continuity, and regulatory compliance.
- Team Development: Lead recruiting, training, and supervision of Associate Medical Directors and EP/BC staff. Set performance goals, conduct evaluations, and provide mentorship.
- Collaboration & Advocacy: Act as a physician ambassador for CHOP, representing emergency preparedness initiatives at local, regional, and national levels.
- Diversity & Inclusion: Actively promote a culture of equity and inclusion within the organization and within EP/BC initiatives.
- Committee Leadership: Co-chair the Mass Casualty Incident Committee, and provide medical leadership in mass casualty events.
Qualifications
- Education: MD or DO with 7+ years of progressive experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
- Licenses & Certifications:
- Medical License in Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (required upon hire).
- Board Certification in Pediatrics or Pediatric Subspecialty.
- Degree in public health, epidemiology, or related field preferred.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of hospital practices, protocols, and applicable regulations.
- Data analysis proficiency and ability to synthesize information into actionable insights.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Completion of core FEMA incident command courses within 6 months of hire.
Technical Requirements
- Demonstrated analytical skills and sound judgment in complex, high-stakes situations.
- Ability to guide implementation and evaluation of EP/BC programs in line with regulatory standards.
- Developed influence skills to work across departments and drive initiatives outside direct control.
