The Department of Medicine in the Duke University School of Medicine is seeking applicants for the position of Chief of the Division of Nephrology. The Division is a national leader in kidney care, research, and education, with a faculty and staff of over 110 individuals.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to provide strategic leadership and direction to advance the key missions of the division. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate a commitment to advancing diversity, pursuing institutional equity, and cultivating an inclusive and welcoming environment where all are valued and respected.

The Chief will lead a large clinical practice that provides comprehensive inpatient and ambulatory care for Duke University Health System, including general and transplant nephrology services. Additionally, the division has a substantial outpatient dialysis program serving Durham, Raleigh, and surrounding counties at 16 dialysis unit locations. The Durham VA Health Care System is also affiliated with Duke.

This position offers the opportunity to lead a vibrant research program, spanning basic, translational, clinical, and health services research. Division faculty conduct innovative research in a wide range of focus areas, including acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, nephrotic syndromes, genetic kidney diseases, kidney transplantation, and immune tolerance. We have a large research footprint comprising 12 federally-funded labs, several large multi-PI translational research programs, investigator-initiated clinical trials, and a robust clinical trial infrastructure. The Division of Nephrology actively collaborates with the Duke Clinical Research Institute, the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute, and the Hubert-Yeargan Center for Global Health.

Educationally, our ACGME-accredited Nephrology Fellowship Program offers five firstyear fellowship positions each year with a clinical concentration pathway, clinical investigator pathway, biomedical science investigator pathway, and global health pathway. Additionally, we offer a one-year AST-accredited kidney transplant fellowship to board-eligible nephrologists.

Applicants must have an MD degree or equivalent from an accredited College of Medicine, be board-certified in Nephrology, and be eligible for appointment at the Associate Professor level or higher (tenure track) at Duke University School of Medicine.
