Position Requirements:

• Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine/osteopathic medicine.
 
• The physician is accountable to the Chief, Urology Surgery Section, and is responsible for providing the most effective delivery of clinical/surgical care throughout the medical center while meeting and exceeding compliance standards.
 
• Provides guidance to interns, residents/fellows, medical students, physician assistants and nurse practitioners and are eligible for clinical appointment at Wake Forest University.
 
• Delivers patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, treatment of disease, and care at the end of life. Comfortable providing training and/or direction to support staff assigned to the unit during the performance of duties.
 
• Demonstrate behaviors that reflect a commitment to continuous professional development, ethical practice, and understanding and sensitivity to diversity, and a responsible attitude toward their patients, their profession

• Utilize practice-based learning and improvement, practitioners are expected to be able to use scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care.
 
• Maintains clinical privileges in the areas of his/her expertise and in all areas required to carry out the duties of his/her assignments/responsibilities within Medicine Services.

• If involved in research, they will show an ability to identify and define significant Research and Development problems, to plan and execute a precise research program, and to generate effective reports and results worthy of publication.

The Salisbury VA Health Care System (SVAHCS) is one of the leading health care systems serving Veterans in the Mid-Atlantic Region, providing health care services at 4 locations in the Central Piedmont region of North Carolina: our W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury and 3 health care center or community-based outpatient clinics in Kernersville, North Charlotte, and South Charlotte. This includes an inpatient medical center that has an ultramodern new hybrid operating room and two Robotic surgical platforms as well as two separate Ambulatory surgery Centers at our HCC's. The W.G. Hefner VAMC is a 484-bed medical center located in Salisbury, North Carolina. Inpatient services are provided for acute medicine, cardiology, surgery, psychiatry, physical rehabilitation, subacute and extended care, neuropsychiatry services, psychiatric intensive care, and geropsychiatry. Primary and specialized outpatient services are provided at the medical center and outpatient clinics. The medical center is affiliated with Wake Forest University School of Medicine, with a focus on resident involvement in primary care, dermatology, rehabilitation, ophthalmology, and psychiatry. The Salisbury VAMC is recognized as one of the largest employers in Rowan County and enjoys the recognition and respect of the community through an active outreach program.

Federal Retirement Plan:

• VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits, 2) FERS-RAE basic benefits (pension), and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan
• How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the employee’s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 16.6% of the employee’s salary
• Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2020, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $19,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $25,500.
• The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
• For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
• In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel
