Inpatient Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation

First Physicians Group (FPG), the employed multi-specialty physician group of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, is excited to open a NEW Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation opportunity.  

We are seeking to employ a BE/BC Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation physician focused on Inpatient Rehabilitation. Join a dedicated team of six (6) Physiatrists and two (2) Advanced Practice Providers in the highly desirable area of Sarasota, Florida.  We are located only minutes from the beautiful beaches of Siesta Key, Lido Key and Longboat Key on the West Coast of Florida.

The Rehab Pavilion is a 60-bed acute inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) that opened in April 2017 on the campus of Sarasota Memorial Hospital. It is a 74,000 square-foot, five-story Pavilion that accommodates the complex medical, rehabilitation and mobility needs of patients with brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, amputation, neurological disorders and orthopedic & musculoskeletal conditions. 

The inpatient rehab unit averages 1,700 admissions per year and has consistently remained at or near capacity.  Our program continues to earn the highest level of accreditation from CARF with the additional certification as a Stroke Specialty provider and is ranked #29 in the nation in adult specialty rehabilitation by US News & World Report’s 2024-2025 “Best Hospitals” list.

Qualifications & Responsibilities:

  • Physician will focus on providing comprehensive care to the inpatient population in the IRF as the primary provider with the convenience of diagnostic labwork and imaging, staffing support, physician consultants, and all other benefits of being connected to a large acute care hospital.
  • The ideal candidate must be proficient with managing medically complex patients and comfortable taking care of a variety of rehab-related diagnoses on the unit.
  • The Physician will have a clinical focus in general physical medicine and rehabilitation.
  • Schedule will be Monday through Friday with rotating call coverage every 6 weeks for weeknights and weekends that is mostly home-based. Weekends typically include admission work and evaluation of patients with active medical issues and usually have APP support for coverage. There will be a post-call day off the following week.
  • There is an opportunity for teaching medical students from Florida State University with Sarasota Memorial Hospital being a main clinical training site, optional and if desired.
  • Candidate must be a graduate from an accredited ACGME Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation program.
  • Current license in Florida is preferred but we will consider candidates who need to apply.
