Position Overview:

We seek a clinically active, progressive leader to provide oversight to the strategic development and implementation of the quality and patient safety programs. Reporting to the Regional VP, Medical Affairs and in collaboration with the System Chief Quality Officer, the Medical Director is a member of the Regional Executive Leadership Team.  As part of the regional  Quality leadership dyad with the Director of Quality, the Medical Director plays a pivotal role in overseeing and advancing quality improvement initiatives within the hospital and region. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a passion for enhancing patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Drive and lead hospital quality projects and initiatives that address common goals and target metrics, with a focus on areas of struggling performance. 
  2. Collaborate with and mentor departmental quality leads to ensure understanding of key accountabilities including quality metrics, role quality plays in department daily work and actively facilitate/drive quality projects that address current quality concerns. 
  3. Review of events to ensure proper peer review referral, QCC assignments and PPEC review of cases.  Lead collaborative interdepartmental and interdisciplinary M+Ms at the hospital level to ensure teams review cases together and can work on process improvement as a team.
  4. Engagement in leapfrog work to ensure sustainability of A grade, and other regulatory programs.
  5. Co-Chair and facilitate quality meetings addressing CMS, DPH and TJC required reporting as well as highlighting quality work within our institution.
  6. Co-lead weekly mortality and focused PSI review meeting and drive follow up.
  7. Actively engage in membership at weekly ELT, including preparing for monthly visibility room submission, as well as hospital Medical Executive Committee and Clinical Chiefs meeting.
  8. Serve in role of executive sponsor to support and guide the hospital quality work including RCA committee, department specific OPPE, MERC, DART, Sepsis, Pert and more. Serve as a mentor for the leadership of these hospital quality workgroups.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification in a medical specialty.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively increasing leadership experience
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a leadership role in quality improvement or patient safety.
  • Strong knowledge of quality improvement methodologies, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Advanced degree in healthcare management, quality improvement, or a related field.
  • Certification in healthcare quality (CPHQ) or patient safety.
