Transplant or General Nephrologist - Minneapolis, MN (1.0 FTE)

HCMC/Hennepin Healthcare, Minnesota’s premier Level I Trauma Center, is seeking a full-time Transplant or General Nephrologist with a commitment to serving diverse and underserved patient populations to join the Nephrology Division, with a primary focus on clinical responsibilities. The successful transplant applicant will be well-versed in all aspects of Nephrology but will be expected to focus on transplant nephrology. The successful general nephrology candidate will have broader responsibilities related to electrolyte balance, nephrolithiasis, acute kidney injury and continuous renal replacement therapy, chronic kidney disease, and end stage renal disease, including understanding of and experience with hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and home hemodialysis.

About the Division

  • Diverse practice opportunities in hypertension, acute and chronic kidney diseases, bone and mineral metabolism, acute and chronic dialysis, as well as transplantation.
  • The Division of Nephrology has an ACGME accredited fellowship program, and its faculty are affiliated with the University of Minnesota.  Appointment will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. 
  • Ample opportunities for clinical research, with both the United States Renal Data System (USRDS) and the Scientific Registry for Transplant Recipients (SRTR) contracts in our Division. 
  • Patient care and support staff includes 15 Physicians, 2 APPs, Coordinators, Dietitians, Social Workers.

Transplant Nephrology

  • Comprehensive transplant program including pre- and post-transplant care of a diverse patient population.
  • Clinic workload distributed between inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Possibility of focusing on transplant care or combining transplant and general nephrology service.
  • Positive work-life balance including flexibility in setting clinic blocks, 5-6 weekend call rotations/year, and approximately 28 call nights/year (supervising a fellow). 

General Nephrology

  • A balance of clinical practice, resident and fellow education, administrative responsibilities, with opportunities to participate in clinical research activities. 
  • Clinic workload distributed between inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • In addition to staffing a Nephrology consult service, the successful candidate will provide care on the primary Nephrology service, where the Nephrologist serves as the attending of record managing all aspects of patient care while teaching residents and fellows. 
  • Outpatient responsibilities include Nephrology clinic and management of hemodialysis (in-center and home) and peritoneal dialysis patients.
  • Positive work-life balance including flexibility in setting clinic blocks, 5-6 weekend call rotations/year, and approximately 28 call nights/year (supervising a fellow). 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree
  • Current or eligibility for license to practice as a physician in Minnesota
  • Completion of an ACGME, AOA or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada accredited training in Residency training program in Internal Medicine as required in the Medical Staff Bylaws.
  • Completion of an ACGME, AOA or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada accredited training in Fellowship training program in Nephrology as required in the Medical Staff Bylaws. Completion of a Kidney Transplant fellowship preferred.
  • If program was completed 4-years ago or more, will need to be board certified by an ABMS or AOB Board
  • Board certification in Nephrology is required within 4 years of completing training.  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • At least one year of direct Nephrology experience in an ambulatory/inpatient setting
  • Transplant experience or training
