Mission or Goal of Unit:  The mission of the Department of Radiology is to create a world-class department by providing optimal care in a patient-centered environment, providing sub-specialty expertise, providing top quality imaging and therapeutic procedures, and to advance medical education and research, with a vision to create a department that is recognized as top tier nationally and internationally.

 Chief Purpose of this position: We are seeking applicants for a Cardiothoracic Radiology faculty position to provide specialized cardiovascular imaging interpretation of conventional radiography, chest CT, HRCT, CTA, lung cancer screening, interventional thoracic procedures, in addition to cardiac CTA and cardiovascular MR. All imaging is fully digitized using recently upgraded, state of the art equipment. A special interest or skill(s) in thoracic acute care imaging, trauma, oncology, cardiology, transplantation, mechanical circulatory assist devices, and infectious and occupational lung diseases is preferred.  This full-time cardiothoracic position will train medical students, residents and fellows within the large, highly productive academic radiology department.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Teaching – Provide training to medical students, residents and fellows, who rotate through the Department of Radiology.
  • Research - Maintain professional relationships established with the Department of Critical Care and Pulmonary Medicine, Thoracic Surgery, Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery, and Cardiology as well as other subspecialty programs. Have a developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of multi-disciplinary applications.
  • Service – Time and effort is expected to be devoted to academic service-related activities. This shall include college, school, and departmental committee work, professional growth, and other such assignments.
  • Clinical – Provide high quality, sub-specialized imaging interpretations for assigned modalities in support of the referring physicians and patients of VCUHS.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Have ABR certification or documentation of passing the Core Component of the ABR Board examination;
  • Be fellowship trained in Cardiothoracic Radiology
  • Applicants must demonstrate experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
  • Candidates must be eligible for a Virginia medical license; must be eligible for permanent employment in the USA.
