Duties:                         The Associate Staff, Critical Care Intensivist at Cleveland Clinic’s Department of Intensive Care and Resuscitation within the Anesthesiology Institute (9500 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44195) provides comprehensive clinical care to critically ill patients, including medical and surgical patients for simple and high-risk cardiac and lung surgeries such as triple valve replacement, Emergent CABG with low ejection fraction, pericardiectomy, and pulmonary endarterectomy, as well as patients with abdominal organ transplants, heart and lung transplants, and ventricular assist devices. He or she works within a critical care team model comprised of residents, fellows, acute care nurse practitioners, and physician assistants administering direct care to hospitalized patients and examining, diagnosing, and treating critically ill patients in the medical, surgical, and cardiac intensive care units. The Associate Staff, Critical Care Intensivist also takes part in the emergency shock consults for decision-making for mechanical circulatory support for patients with critical cardiogenic shock or lung failure. He or she will regularly perform specialized procedures such as intra-aortic balloon pump insertion and cannulation for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for critically ill patients with advanced lung and cardiac dysfunction; provide routine care and decision-making on mechanical circulatory support for cardiac and lung indications such as venovenous and venoarterial ECMO, intra-aortic balloon pump, Impella, and right and left ventricular assist devices; and perform and interpret rescue Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) on an urgent or emergent basis for critically ill patients with advanced cardiogenic shock. In addition to clinical responsibilities, he or she will conduct research in the field of cardiac critical care and mechanical circulatory support, and will confer with and inform medical trainees and other medical staff members regarding Cardiovascular Critical Care, performing mechanical circulatory support, and basic and advanced Cardiac and lung surgeries and procedures. This position involves variable shifts (day, night, weekend and holidays), as well as on-call responsibilities.

 

Requirements:             MD, DO or foreign equivalent as determined by a credentials evaluation or as evidenced by an ECFMG certificate; Board Eligibility or Board Certification in Critical Care Medicine; and eligibility for medical licensure in Ohio.

 

Salary:                         Commensurate with qualifications and experience ($410,000 per year)
