The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek exceptional board certified/eligible critical care anesthesiologists to join our elite team within the Department of Anesthesiology.  The growth in clinical volume throughout The Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center has created opportunities to add additional general and sub-specialty trained anesthesiologists with an interest in education and/or research. Positions can be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.

Position Overview

Faculty in the division of critical care are anesthesiology-trained intensivists who provide care for complex, critically ill patients in three distinct intensive care units. The University Hospital SICU has a diverse population, including trauma, acute care surgical, liver transplant, and burn patients.  The James Cancer Hospital SICU care for a unique population of critically ill cancer patients who require surgery for the care of their cancer or cancer-related complications including both surgically and medically complex diseases. Since 2010, the team has directed care in the 30-bed cardiovascular surgery intensive care unit (CIVCU). The CVICU is the home for our high-volume ECLS/ECMO and end-stage cardiopulmonary failure program, including a growing number of temporary and long-term left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) and heart/lung transplants.  The faculty plays an integral role throughout the medical center and university.  Additionally, the intensivist will provide perioperative care at the University Hospital, The James Comprehensive Cancer Hospital on the main campus and our expanding outpatient surgical centers. Department/Division Overview

The Department of Anesthesiology is composed of 128 physicians, 103 CRNA/CAA’s, 10 clinician scientists, 80 residents, 9 fellows, a large compliment of anesthesia technicians and 13 administrative support staff. Comprised of six academic divisions, Critical Care, Pain, Cardiothoracic, OB, Ambulatory and General Anesthesia, the Department provides comprehensive anesthesia services throughout the health system, including off-site and regional locations. The department is deeply invested in teaching and training, offering four ACGME-accredited fellowships in cardiothoracic anesthesiology, critical care anesthesiology, obstetric anesthesiology, pain medicine and regional anesthesiology as well as additional fellowships in neuroanesthesiology and Executive Leadership and Business in Anesthesiology. An additional ACGME accredited fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology is offered in partnership with Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

The Division of Critical Care Medicine has 15 faculty members. With a mission of providing patient-centered, evidenced- based, innovative care, the Department of Anesthesiology led the opening of the first Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at OSUWMC in 1979. With one of the largest sections in the department, the faculty remains key in the hospital’s critical care medicine services.  Our team actively leads administrative and quality initiatives, including committee chairs and medical directorships. With leadership roles in the College of Medicine and residency/fellowship program, we are committed to providing an exceptional educational experience for medical students, residents and fellows. Faculty members have an emerging role in critical care clinical research, with multiple active studies and a growing national reputation. We are active members of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Society of Critical Care Medicine, and American Association of Respiratory Care with faculty serving on key committees throughout these organizations.

  • Successful completion of an accredited Anesthesiology Residency Program
  • Fellowship trained in Critical Care Medicine
  • Current board certification in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine
  • Eligible for an Ohio Medical License

Faculty Defined
Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) 
- Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a doctor of medicine (MD), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and/or research. ?

Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.?

Research Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.?
