Jacksonville's First Hospital of the 21st Century
Baptist Health expanded its circle of care in 2005 by adding Baptist Medical Center South to serve the rapidly growing neighborhoods in southern Duval and northern St. Johns counties. Jacksonville's first hospital of the 21st century and a Magnetâ„¢ hospital -- the highest honor a health care organization can receive for excellence in patient care --offers residents convenient access to this full-service healthcare facility. The hospital blends an advanced electronic environment with Baptist Health's holistic mission of providing for the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of patients and their families. Like all Baptist Health facilities, Baptist Medical Center South is a faith-based, mission-driven, locally governed organization dedicated to providing high-quality care for everyone.
Baptist South is situated on a beautifully landscaped 32-acre campus. Its 196 suites include 22 maternity, 16 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and an 18 bed Day Stay. To accommodate the growing needs of the community, an expansion of Baptist South's emergency department is planned for 2011. The additional space will double the size of the department bringing the total to 36 beds.
In October 2009 Baptist Medical Center South opened a second medical office building. The new 100,000-square-foot, five-story building includes a Surgery Center with two new state-of-the-art outpatient surgery suites, two endoscopy suites and shelled space to add a third operating room in the future. Space on the remaining four floors house new physicians and specialties for the convenience of the community.
An eight-story addition to the hospital has opened three floors, adding 76 new patient beds. Baptist South now has a total of 196 beds -- more than double its size when it opened in 2005 with 92 beds.
The new tower includes a state-of-the-art, 14-bed Level II Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) which is a partnership with the neonatal intensive care program at Wolfson Children's Hospital. The Level II NICU allows for more babies with varying health needs to be born at Baptist South and to receive care in partnership with Wolfson, the only regional pediatric referral facility.
An additional 10 new maternity suites have been added - bringing the total to 22 - allowing labor delivery, recovery and postpartum in the same room, 48 acute care beds, four more intensive care beds, and a new inpatient pharmacy. The remainder of the Tower is vacant space that is available for future inpatient, outpatient and surgical services growth.
