Chief Purpose of this position:  The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology is seeking a candidate to provide Adult Congenital Heart Disease clinical care along with supporting the academic mission in research and education.  The ACHD program completed the accreditation site visit and institutionally has support for strong a program.  The incumbent will join an established group of physicians and surgeons in one of the top Heart Centers in the United States.

Position Responsibilities:  The candidate will provide comprehensive care in the inpatient and outpatient setting for adults with congenital heart disease regardless of severity of illness.  The candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of experts, including pediatric cardiologists, congenital and adult cardiac surgeons, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, advanced heart failure and transplant specialists, hepatologists, social workers, nurses, and others.  The candidate will participate in outreach clinics and in research and educational activities related to ACHD, such as publishing papers, presenting at conferences, teaching fellows and residents, and mentoring students.  The candidate will assist in the development of an ACHD fellowship.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be a board certified cardiologist and board certified/board eligible in Adult Congenital Heart Disease
  • Must be clinically oriented and possess sufficient research and teaching experience to be eligible for an academic appointment
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and work with a large multi-disciplinary program
  • Must participate in teaching and fellowship programs
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Virginia
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as faculty member of VCU
