Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology is seeking a member to join our comprehensive Advanced Heart Failure Program at the Pauley Heart Center.  The incumbent will dedicate their time to care for patients with heart failure, heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support devices. Also, they will integrate into the multidisciplinary team and participate in research, teaching, quality improvement and outreach projects.

Position Responsibilities:

Teaching | To support teaching directly via interactions with Fellows, Housestaff and non-physician professionals.  Periodically will be expected to present appropriate reviews in patient management discussions at Cardiology and Department of Internal Medicine conferences.  In addition, will be expected to participate in University Continuing Medical Education programs for practicing physicians which is important to enhancing patient referrals. 

Research | To participate as a primary or sub-investigator to broaden the Pauley Heart Center’s Clinical research portfolio.

Service | The incumbent will be expected to participate in quality, safety and efficiency initiatives. Formal leadership positions may be considered based on prior experience and rank. 

Clinical | Will primarily be dedicated to the outpatient, inpatient, catheterization laboratory and consultative services. 

Other | Submit billing and document care as required by the organization.   Abide by all medical staff requirements. 

Required Qualifications:

  • BC/BE Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiologist, with demonstrated skills in cardiovascular disease, MCS and heart transplantation
  • Clinically oriented and possess sufficient research and teaching experience to be eligible for an academic appointment
  • Communicate effectively and work with a large multidisciplinary program
  • Ability to participate in teaching and fellowship programs
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Virginia
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Interest in critical care and cardiogenic shock
