Opportunity Details

The Albany Medical College’s Department of Surgery Division of Transplant is searching for a full-time Director of the Transplant Immunology Laboratory (TIL) and faculty member. Duties include directing the TIL, supporting the clinical renal transplant programs at Albany Medical Center Health System and University of Vermont Medical Center, and supporting the Center for Donation and Transplant OPO. The laboratory also provides testing for disease association, transfusion services and supports New York Oncology Hematology with testing for hematopoietic cell transplant. Other duties will include assessing and introducing new technologies to the laboratory, scholarly activity, teaching and management of the laboratory’s finances and Medicare cost reporting.

The TIL Director is responsible for the clinical testing and operational activities of the laboratory including technical development, quality management, interpretative consultation, administrative management, educational activities for residents and students, and staff development. 

The TIL Director serves as the Laboratory Director, Technical Supervisor and Clinical Consultant.

Opportunities exist for collaborative research within the Department of Surgery Division of Transplant as well as the Albany Medical College Department of Immunology ad Microbial Disease

Tests offered by the TIL include HLA typing by next-generation sequencing using nanopore technology and by RT-PCR, HLA antibody testing by solid phase using screening and single antigen beads, and crossmatching by flow cytometry.

The TIL is CLIA certified through the New York State Department of Health Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program (NYSDOH CLEP) and accredited by the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI).

Qualified applicants must: 1) have an MD, DO or PHD in immunology or a related science from an accredited institution, 2) be board certified by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI), and 3) hold or be eligible for a Certificate of Qualification in Histocompatibility from the NYSDOH CLEP. Note: MD applicants must be currently registered and licensed in New York State and/or the state in which they practice. 

The Director of the TIL will have an academic appointment within the Albany Medical College Department of Surgery, Division of Transplantation. Academic rank and compensation are dependent upon qualifications, experience, and track record of accomplishments in service, education, and academic activities.
