Position Summary:

Diagnose, treat, and manage various endocrine disorders. Consult with patients and perform diagnostic tests to determine whether they have an endocrine condition. Design a treatment plan, which could include prescription medication, nutritional supplements and/or lifestyle changes. Plans, organizes, directs, evaluates and ensures highest quality medical services to patients with diabetes and/or likelihood of a diabetes diagnosis. Responsible for developing, planning and implementing clinical vision and direction that are in support of GRHC diabetes services goals and timelines. Provide medical expertise and oversight for diabetes treatment and prevention services.

Critical Tasks:

  • Analyzing, examining, and investigating patients and their medical histories for signs and symptoms of hormonal imbalances. Advising, ordering, and performing tests and interpreting the results.
  • Discussing diagnoses with patients, explaining treatment options, and giving advice on medications, lifestyle and dietary changes, and other preventative measures.
  • Carrying out follow-up appointments, monitoring patient progress, adjusting treatment plans and medications, and updating patient records.
  • Remaining up-to-date on current discoveries, developments, trends, research, and technology.
  • Diagnose, treat, and manage various endocrine disorders, such as diabetes, thyroid diseases, osteoporosis, and PCOS.
  • Analyze laboratory tests and diagnostic images to identify the root causes of hormone imbalances.
  • Prescribe appropriate medications and therapies to manage hormonal disorders, including surgery when necessary.
  • Order and interpret tests related to endocrine function, including blood tests, biopsies, and imaging.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate medical records for each patient.
  • Establishes and maintains or improves the quality and outcomes of diabetes prevention and medical care.
  • Recommends standards for diabetes care, support, education, and informational initiatives and resources to share with staff, patients, caregivers, families and the community.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and quality care for patients.
  • Actively participates as a member of the Medical Staff; serves on committees as appropriate.
  • Provides clinical leadership and consultation for other professionals by providing expertise in various therapeutic interventions.
  • Works collaboratively with other medical and specialty areas to discuss and obtain consultative services for cases requiring multi-disciplinary approach.
  • Maintains quality assurance programs and monitors quality indicators while taking all necessary actions to achieve patient care, customer service and regulatory standards.
  • Works closely and highly productively with the Life Center Department Director to prepare grant application and reports while ensuring accuracy and timeliness of submissions.
  • Assists in the development of protocols, procedures, and management tools in accordance with grant guidelines, tribal requirements, and local cultural values.
  • Performs other job-related activities as requested.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited program of study leading to either an M.D. or D.O. Degree required.
  • Current, unrestricted and valid State of Arizona license to practice medicine from the Arizona Medical Board or the Arizona Board of Osteopathic Examiners in Medicine & Surgery. If licensed in another state, must possess such Arizona license within one (1) year of hire.
  • Board certified or board eligible with achievement of certification in Endocrinology. If board eligible, be in active participation in the examination process leading to board certification within the recommended timeframe of the respective board.
  • Current or eligible for Drug Enforcement Licensure (DEA) licensure.
  • Current BLS certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire and continuing BLS training and certifications. 
  • Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.

Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital is the premiere site for GRHC’s health care activities.  The hospital campus is also home to the New Beginnings Behavioral Health center, the Women’s Health Center, the Optometry/Opthalmology Center, the Life Center special diabetes program, and our various medical clinics and administrative offices.  Located nearby are the East Dialysis Clinic and the Caring House.   This campus is located in Sacaton, Arizona, approximately 30 minutes from Phoenix.
