HonorHealth is seeking an experienced Trauma Medical Director with a desire to lead a fully staffed Trauma program with five fellowship trained Acute Care Surgeons in one of Arizona’s oldest Trauma Centers.    As the anchor program for the hospital, the Trauma Surgeons are the dominant surgical team for all Acute Care Surgery and have the option to create an elective Surgical practice including access to an XI Robot. 

HonorHealth is a locally owned, locally managed not-for-profit healthcare system with six hospitals in the Phoenix/Scottsdale metro area.  HonorHealth Osborn is 320-beds in the heart of Scottsdale.  HonorHealth is unique in being able to respond to the needs of the patients, community, and providers.  Each member of the Trauma Team serves a critical role in maintaining world-class Trauma care close to home. 

HonorHealth Osborn is one of the original five Level 1 Trauma programs in the state and a national partner with military, this well-established program has incredible relationships with local EMS, Fire and Police.   As a system committed to ACGME, HonorHealth has one Surgical Critical Care Fellow each year and partners with the military as a training location and has General Surgery residents from neighboring programs.  

This position is an employed acute care surgery model with a scope of practice across trauma, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery, with support to build an elective practice as desired.   

We are looking for surgeons who are interested in building their career by providing excellent patient care through innovation and participation in education and research.

The Trauma Center: 

  • Verified American College of Surgeons Level 1 trauma center with mature performance improvement and operational improvement systems
  • Trauma backup surgeon parking at the entrance to the emergency department, modern ICU rooms, and a first-floor operating room close to the newly renovated trauma bays
  • Outstanding trauma center infrastructure with dedicated trauma elevators, a hybrid operating room, and a military sized helipad as examples
  • Outstanding subspecialty representation including trauma anesthesia, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, interventional radiology and all necessary medical support teams and services

Clinical Support:

  • Six employed Trauma Surgeons board certified in Surgery and added qualifications in Surgical Critical Care
  • Seven employed advanced practitioners
  • Flexible scheduling based on 12-hour shifts with an option of 24-hour shifts if desired
  • Stable, dedicated, and professional trauma division leadership with full institutional support dedicated to optimization of patient centered outcomes including the overall patient experience
  • A commitment to providing workplace collegiality as well as a sustainable work-life balance

Education and Research:

  • An ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) accredited Surgical Critical Care fellowship
  • An OTA (Orthopedic Trauma Association) accredited Orthopedic Trauma fellowship
  • Rotating surgery residents from two programs that work directly with the core surgeon team
  • A unique military partnership program that provides opportunities for ATLS, Trauma Nurse Fellowship and pre-deployment and first responder teaching opportunities.
  • Direct support from the HonorHealth Research Institute for trauma research including a trauma research nurse, trauma research director and statistician
