The Atlanta, GA VA Medical Center is searching for a BE/BC Family Practice/Internal Medicine Physician to join their dynamic healthcare team.

The openings are located at the Blairsville, GA Community Based Outpatient Clinic.

They also have openings in Marietta, GA, Newnan, GA, and Carrollton, GA Community Based Out Patient Clinics.  

The Primary Care physician work as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team, collaborating with other members of the team to provide medical care to veterans enrolled on the team. The physician is expected to demonstrate advance competencies and skills in assessing the physical and psychological status of patients. He/ she will provide comprehensive patient assessment, health history, physical examination, and patient education to veterans in the Primary Care team setting. As a Physician you will provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill and injured veterans.

Duties include documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with other health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes; providing a full range of care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems; and accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade. Our facility is seeking individuals who possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work, a demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient centered program, and the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team.

The Primary Care Physician provides primary medical care and is responsible for all aspects of patient care. Physician is responsible for referrals to specialists, ordering and or performing procedures, ordering and monitoring all medications as well as handling the acute needs of all their patients
The physician is accountable for ensuring the most cost effective delivery of care and meeting or exceeding established care quality standards.

The VA Healthcare System uses a comprehensive electronic medical record and is dedicated to providing primary medical care via a patient-centered medical home model. Physician will be assigned a patient panel of 1000-1200 patients.

Work Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm

Salary Range: $240k-$270k per year

A recruitment/relocation incentive may be authorized for a highly qualified candidate

Selected candidate may be eligible to apply for student loan repayment thru the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Participation is based on funds availability.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Citizenship: Citizen of the United States: (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens)

Licensure: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia

Education: Must have a degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Physical Standards: All applicants must meet the physical requirements established for this position

Federal Retirement Plan:

  • VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits, 2) FERS-RAE basic benefits (pension), and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan
  • How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the employee’s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 16.6% of the employee’s salary
  • Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2020, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $19,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $25,500.
  • The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
  • For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
  • In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel
