Job Summary

The Clinical Director (CD) is a hybrid role operating as both a clinical provider (0.75 FTE) and a clinical leader (0.25 FTE) providing clinical and operational leadership in their clinic. The CD, in accordance with guidance from the RMD, has primary responsibility for providing management, supervision, support, and development of the clinical providers and is accountable for their day-to-day performance. The CD functions as dyad partner with the Practice Manager coordinating provider schedules, clinical staff workflows, and managing daily patient flow in the clinic to ensure the highest degree of quality care, patient and provider satisfaction, and operational excellence. The CD operates at the tactical level in collaboration with other clinical and operations leaders and is responsible for supporting provider interviewing, orientation/onboarding, training/development, clinical oversight, and performance evaluation and supports clinical quality and operational process improvement initiatives.

Education
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited School of Medicine or Osteopathy or
  • Physician Assistant (PA)/Registered Nurse Practitioner with a Master’s degree or post Master’s Certificate as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP).
  • Completion of an accredited residency program in area of practice (e.g., family medicine, internal medicine, or pediatrics).

Preferred:

  • Education and training in specialized care such as family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and prenatal.
  • Formal education and training in leadership and management.

Experience

  • Experience as a practicing clinician (2 years).
  • Experience working in a primary care, multi-site, multi-provider medical practice.

Preferred:

  • Clinical supervisory/management experience as a clinic director, or equivalent (2 years)
  • Familiarity with federally qualified health centers or FQHC “look alikes.” or other similar healthcare settings.
  • Experience working in a not-for-profit healthcare organization.
  • Experience working in healthcare delivery to low income, multi-ethnic populations.
  • Experience leading process improvement, quality improvement/assurance, and/or CQI initiatives in a primary care clinical setting.

Credentials

  • Physician license (MD/DO) with the State of Washington or
  • Physician Assistant (PA)/Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) license with prescriptive privileges with the State of Washington
  • Board eligible/Board certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) in Family Practice, Internal Medicine or Pediatrics. Board certification - must be obtained within one year from date of hire or
  • Physician Assistant certification by the National Commission on Certification or Physician Assistants (NCCPA)/ Advanced Registered Practitioner certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
  • DEA controlled substances registration.
  • Hospital privileges (if applicable for job) - must be obtained within 60 days of employment.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR/AED) certification - must be obtained within 45 days of employment.
  • Successful completion of CHC’s credentialing/privileging review upon hire and recredentialing as appropriate.

Preferred:

  • Leadership certification or training.

Other

  • Driver's license with the State of Washington.
  • Motor vehicle insurance liability policy, a certificate of deposit, or a liability bond to the required limits.

Job Specific Functions/Performance:

A. Clinical Director (25%)

  1. Communication – Consistently and effectively communicates organizational goals, values and key messages, ensuring a seamless and unified flow of information throughout the entire team; actively participates in and leads relevant clinical and operational meetings to support regular and transparent communication across the clinical team.
  2. Clinic Management – Support and direct the clinical and programmatic components of the CHC medical division at the clinic level, in a manner that meets continuous performance improvement, customer service, programmatic growth, and financial requirements that support the mission of CHC.
  3. Clinic Performance - Collaborates with the leadership team to develop and implement annual operation plans for the clinic, including regular report outs and clinic reviews.
  4. Operational Performance – Works in collaboration with the Regional Medical Director, Clinic Practice Manager, and other clinical and operational leaders to oversee all functions related to clinical services, including but not limited to providing, monitoring, and maintaining the highest degree of quality clinical care, patient/provider experience, and operational excellence and providing overall direction, integration, and coordination of medical services at assigned clinic.
  5. Provider Development and Performance Management - Manages provider performance issues and professional development within their designated clinic; supports and provides oversight of continuing education and training programs; responsible for provider site orientation, onboarding, and performance evaluation.
  6. Quality and Process Improvement - Participates in Quality Improvement and Utilization Management programs and activities, in collaboration with the organization’s quality improvement program; leads clinical, operational, and quality improvement activities at assigned clinic.
  7. Informatics/IT Enablement - Serves as a role model and coach to the providers at assigned clinic and ensures providers are regularly trained in the most efficient ways of using the EHR. Supports IT/EMR-related enablement/improvement efforts.
  8. Strategy – Collaborates with members of the clinical and operational leadership team to assure achievement of business and strategic goals, objectives, and initiatives of the Organization.
  9. Data Analysis - Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates financial and statistical information and productivity reports for assigned clinic with clinical and operational leaders and makes the necessary adjustments as appropriate. Prepares and distributes data and/or reports and presentations to appropriate recipients and audiences.
  10. Budget - Works with Medical and Operational leadership to support administration of clinic budgets and ensure they are used as an effective management tool.
  11. Collaborates as a dyad partner with the clinic practice manager to assure the services of CHC are provided to patients on a daily basis and in accordance with CHC standards.
  12. Participates in identifying and resolving day-to-day operational issues and solutions in collaboration with the site leadership team.
  13. Connects regularly with the Regional Medical Director to identify and resolve needs of clinic and providers.
  14. Attendance - Adheres to attendance standards in order to perform the job functions of this role.

B. Clinical Provider (75%)

  1. Patient Care - Performs all duties and responsibilities contained in the job description for a Physician, PA, ARNP.
