Anesthesiologist position in Manhattan, New York (part-time)
The New York Harbor VA Healthcare system is currently recruiting for one Physician (Anesthesiology) for the Manhattan Campus for the Anesthesiology department. Part time position and salary will be prorated based on the actual hours worked. You will cover one day per week at the Manhattan VA doing TAVRs. It is imperative that the cardiac anesthesia professional has an understanding of this transformative procedure and the unique anesthetic challenges these patients present in order to provide the safest level of care. If no TAVRs that day, then you will be assigned to the cardiac (open heart) or other cases as needed.
A well-designed and thoughtful anesthetic plan should always be accompanied by an understanding of the sequence of steps involved in the TAVR procedure so that hemodynamic perturbations and procedural complications can be anticipated and addressed appropriately. As TAVR moves toward use in low-risk patients, the importance of readiness to manage catastrophic complications becomes even more important. There should be contingency plans for anything from major hemodynamic changes and catastrophic complications to intolerance to MAC anesthesia.
TEE experience/certification is needed.
