Children’s Mercy Kansas City, in partnership with KVC, is seeking a Medical Director to lead a new inpatient mental health wellness campus that is currently under construction in Olathe, Kansas.  

The Medical Director will participate in the implementation and ongoing management of psychiatric and medical operations including the development of health management strategies, quality of psychiatric and medical care, and new clinical initiatives; provide professional pediatric and adult psychiatry services to the Psychiatric Hospital’s patients, including the diagnosis and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders; provide psychiatry standard medical education and supervision services to psychiatric fellows at the Psychiatric Hospital; Provide oversight, evaluation, and review of quality of work of psychiatric practitioners for appropriate diagnosis, treatment, and documentation.

The preferred candidate will be triple board certified in General Psychiatry, Pediatrics and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and four to six years of post-residency clinical experience with at least three years of experience in medical leadership roles in an inpatient environment.  Key considerations for this position:

  • Stand alone, newly constructed, state of the art, inpatient psychiatric hospital - 72-beds (48 dedicated to children).
  • Diverse patient population – Sixty-six percent of Children’s Mercy youth mental health patients are people of color; Seventy-four percent of mental health patients are from lower median household incomes (according to US Census data from 2022.
  • Team based care focused on families – In collaboration with interdisciplinary behavioral health care clinical team at the Psychiatric Hospital including physicians, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, or other professionals regarding the treatment planning process.
