Job Description

Seeking Talented Staff Physicians for the Section of Hematology & Oncology to Join Our Healthcare Team in Tulsa, OK.

Position Information

The EASTERN Oklahoma VA Health Care System (EOVAHCS) is seeking applications for the position of staff physician, Hematology/Oncology. We're seeking a board certified, full-time employed physician to join our Hematology/Oncology department at the Eastern Oklahoma VA Medical Center Hospital. Our ideal candidate will enjoy a busyclinical practice and be dual board certified in Hematology Oncology. We are specifically seeking someone with interest in solid tumors, sarcoma/melanoma, as well as hematology. Join a department that is expanding to better serve veteran patients!

  The Staff Physicians may have teaching opportunities due to our association with Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (OSUCOM) and the  Oklahoma University of  Oklahoma College of Medicine (OUCOM) program. Qualified applicants will have an MD/DO, current medical license and be board-certified or eligible in Hematology and/or Oncology. The ideal candidate for the staff physician positions will be suitable for academic appointment at OSUCOM and OUCOM. At the level of assistant, associate, or full professor, as supported  by a strong track record of academic and/or clinical excellence.  Applicants must also be eligible for appointment at the VA.The clinical activities of the Section of Hematology/Oncology span the breath of the subspecialty and are strongly supported by surgery, pathology, radiology and the other staff members of Medicine Service. 

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, (May be required to work evenings or weekends as a 24/7 Full-Time Physician).

  • Board Certification in Hematology & Oncology is preferred, but Board Eligibility may also be considered.  Additional board certification in Internal Medicine is preferred

  • Salary range is $270,000 to $340,000 & potential for annual performance bonus up to $15,000

Federal Retirement Plan:

  • VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits, 2) FERS-RAE basic benefits (pension), and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan
  • How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the employee’s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 16.6% of the employee’s salary
  • Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2020, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $19,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $25,500.
  • The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
  • For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
  • In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel
  • Disability Retirement
  • Employees are vested in a federal pension after only 5 years service
