About the Opportunity

First Physicians Group of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is seeking to employ two OB Hospitalists for the highly desirable area of Sarasota/Venice, FL. We are located approximately 60 minutes south of Tampa and 1.5 hours north of Ft. Myers on the West Coast of Florida.

Sarasota Memorial Hospital-Sarasota Campus, with our flagship 901-bed, acute-care hospital and 8-story Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute Oncology Tower, is the only hospital in Sarasota County providing obstetrical services, pediatrics, Level III neonatal intensive care, psychiatric services for patients of all ages and a Level II Trauma Center.

With the opening of Sarasota Memorial Hospital-Venice in fall 2021, we're able to provide south Sarasota County residents convenient access to the same level of care and 5-Star physicians, staff and systems available at our SMH-Sarasota Campus. SMH-Venice features 110 private rooms, a 28-room Emergency Care Center, 8 surgical suites, 10 birthing suites and a pandemic-ready intensive care unit. It is a Level 1 nursery accepting patients who are 35+ weeks.

Highlights of the Opportunity:

  • Sarasota Memorial’s Main Campus has a Level III NICU and 33 private rooms.
  • Hospital has Neonatologists on site and two Maternal Fetal Medicine physicians providing coverage 24/7.
  • 5 APRNs/CNMs to cover SMH-Sarasota 24/7.
  • OB-ECC with 8 beds opening in August 2024.
  • 30 postpartum beds; 18 Labor Rooms; 3 C-Section Operating Rooms and a 4-bed PACU with ability to flex beds as needed.
  • 4 daVinci robots accessible to our surgeons.
  • SMH was designated as a Baby-Friendly Hospital in 2017 and successfully re-designated in 2023.
  • We achieved Level III Maternal Care Verification from the Joint Commission in collaboration with the American College of Obstetrics in 2023 for providing advanced care to low and moderate-risk pregnancies, as well as to high-risk patients, including subspecialty care for more complex maternal medical conditions, obstetric complications and fetal conditions.
  • Hospital does not have OBGYN Residents requiring supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Hospital-based position working 7 or 8 shifts per month (90 shifts total per year) at both the SMH-Venice Hospital and SMH Main Campus. Shifts are 24 hours.
  • Will perform deliveries including C-Sections and urgent Gynecologic surgeries/procedures and consults.
  • Evaluates and manages high-risk obstetrics patients.
  • Must be willing to work weekends and holidays as part of the shift requirement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Board-Certified OB/GYN is required with 3+ years of experience.
  • Licensed in Florida and holds a current DEA Certificate.
  • Graduate of an ACGME accredited OB/GYN program.
