We are seeking an infectious diseases physician to provide excellent, compassionate, evidence based, efficient patient care while educating the physicians and healthcare professionals of tomorrow using state-of-the-art facilities and knowledge in the field of Infectious Disease and Internal Medicine.

Chief Purpose of this position: To provide high quality patient care in the specialty of Infectious Disease and support the academic mission of the School of Medicine, the Division of Infectious Disease, and the Department of Internal Medicine.

Position Responsibilities: 

Teaching | Staff Infectious Disease and HIV fellow’s clinic and Infectious Disease consultation services.  Teach fellows, residents, and medical students using adult teaching methods that enhance and encourage active learning and ongoing professional development.  Complete student, resident and fellow evaluations.  Participate in other ID educational activities including resident didactic series, and Internal Medicine Grand Rounds, and other educational duties assigned by the department and service.

Research:  Participate in clinical and administrative research according to skills, interests, and funding.  Provide mentoring and supervision of fellows and residents in research and QI initiatives.   Research opportunities may include performance improvement initiatives or formal extramurally funded investigations and participation may be as principle investigator or co-investigator.

Service:  Work with institutional and administrative staff to attain the objectives of Virginia Commonwealth University and VCU Health System including patient safety, customer satisfaction, maintenance and enhancement of public perception and fiscal health.

Clinical | Provide excellent patient care in general infectious disease and focused areas of interest and experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings.  Actively participate in management of patients on ID consult service.  Join colleagues in assuring service coverage 24/7/365.

Other | Comply promptly with billing, documentation, credentialing and other administrative requirements of the department.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Board certification or eligibility in internal medicine and infectious disease
  • Direct experience in managing complex infectious diseases including HIV care in both inpatient and outpatient in settings
  • Working as a team with other healthcare providers in a collaborative manner to provide patient care
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience as a medical provider at an academic medical center
