Atrium Health Levine Children’s announces an opening for a full-time Chief of the Congenital Heart Center. This position is responsible for facilitating the alignment of interests and the coordination of efforts for the Congenital Heart Center Cardiologists with the organizational needs of Atrium Health. The Chief is responsible for assessing and making recommendations to Levine Children’s Hospital and Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute Administration and senior Atrium Health leadership regarding the clinical and business environments of the Congenital Heart Center. The Chief is to assist in the effective deployment and evaluation of the Congenital Heart Center workforce.

The Chief is responsible for oversight of the operations, strategies and growth of the division. The Chief will work closely with the President of LCH and SHVI, the SVP of LCH, other division leaders, physicians, including the surgeons and cardiologists employed by Levine Children’s Congenital Heart Center, as well as staff to deliver coordinated multidisciplinary care to their patients.

Core responsibilities include: 

  • Recommends to LCH Administration enough qualified and competent physicians and APPs to provide clinical services that recognizes the Congenital Heart Center operational model and expected standards. 
  • Works with the Medical Directors in quantifying and planning for adequate ancillary staffing and other resources relative to their areas of responsibility.
  • Collaborates with LCH Administration and Management to ensure the Congenital Heart Center physicians are aware of strategic plans and facilitates implementation of those plans.
  • Works with physicians, management, and leadership in assuring successful operational performance relative to annual goals, strategic plans, and overall financial success.
  • Makes recommendations to Congenital Heart Center and LCH Administration in matters affecting patient care, including personnel, space, and other resources, supplies, special regulations, standing orders, and techniques.
  • Is responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of clinical services.
  • Supports and evaluates the pediatric cardiology medical directors in their roles, setting goals for performance, monitoring progress and providing feedback.
  • Meets regularly with the LCH President to discuss established goals of outcomes, and implementation of the Congenital Heart strategy plan. Provides discussion as to the Congenital Heart Center culture, MD concerns, and other matters of mutual interest.
  • On an annual basis, review, recommend, and assist in creating and communicating performance standards for physician leaders and physicians.
  • Maintain a departmental organization structure designed to allow maximum administrative efficiency. 
  • Oversight, and compliance of the Atrium Divisional Operating Budget in conjunction with the Administration of LC Congenital Heart Center.
  • Participates in creating a plan for the activities of the division and for future development of the division in conjunction with the mission, vision, strategies, and goals of Atrium Health.
  • Responsible that all decisions are based on assuring that the clinical responsibilities, the educational program, and research activities of the division are congruent with the mission, vision, strategies, and goals of Atrium Health.
  • Responsible for the evaluation of the divisional administrative, clerical, laboratory and clinical personnel where appropriate.
  • Participates in recruiting and maintaining a full-time faculty that represents a spectrum of highly qualified physicians.
  • Assure oversight, direction, and participation in the necessary planning for the ongoing development of the division to an extent that will maximize the quality of patient care to all patients of the System and available services in concert with the administrative principles and strategy of Atrium Health. 
  • Monitor the clinical activity of the division to assure appropriate patient care. 
  • Support the overall mission of Atrium Health by working closely and collegially with the physicians and administrative staff of Atrium Health – Medical Group as well as other physicians of the Medical Staff of Atrium Health. 
  • Assures that all Congenital Heart Center providers and resident house staff appropriately code, document, and complete medical records in compliance with established Atrium policies and procedures. 
  • Promotes a culture of clinical and industry sponsored research throughout all divisions within the Congenital Heart Center, to complement the already strong interventional cardiology and heart failure clinical research.
