The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Psychologist 4 at the Washington State Penitentiary (WSP) located in Walla Walla, WA.

Washington State Penitentiary (WSP) is a 2000 bed facility for high and medium custody men. It is located just outside the city, farms and vineyards of Walla Walla.  Four separate facilities exist within the institution, each of which houses a different custody level of offender. WSP is currently engaged in major facility construction; replacing old facilities with newer high custody housing units. WSP has just opened a new stand-alone health care building with inpatient and outpatient medical and mental health care and a six chair dental operatory.

Duties

In this role you will:

  • Supervises doctoral level psychologists in an institution, directs and coordinates work of psychologists with that of other institution service programs.
  • Serves as psychological consultant to Clinical Director, Superintendent and medical staff on problems involving psychological services.
  • Plans, executes, and participates in treatment programs.
  • Serves as consultant to diagnostic, intake, treatment, and disposition staff.
  • Provides individual and group psychotherapy to patients.
  • Does psychodiagnostic testing of patients and employees.
  • Participates in training and education of institution staff in psychological field.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree in Psychology from an accredited school or department of Psychology whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA),
  • And possession of a current license to practice psychology in the state of Washington.
  • Each employee is expected to maintain and adhere to the continuing education requirements for the applicable professional credential.
  • Each employee must adhere to legislation and/or law changes that may affect current licensure and/or registration requirements. 
Desired: Three years of Postdoctoral Psychology experience, including one year of experience in forensic psychology.

Health Services is responsible for basic primary care for incarcerated offenders. Care includes medical, dental, and mental health care which are provided to offenders by on–site health care staff.
