Associate Medical Director of Biochemical Genetics at Cleveland Clinic

The Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory at Cleveland Clinic is seeking a clinical chemist or clinical biochemical geneticist to serve as Associate Director of Biochemical Genetics and join a diverse group of five medical directors and two clinical development scientists. The biochemical genetics laboratory offers testing in the areas of prenatal serum screening and inborn errors of metabolism, including organic acids, amino acids and acylcarnitines. The successful candidate will work with another medical director to provide accurate and timely test results, offer clinical consultations, and provide strategic direction to sustain and grow the laboratory test menu. An interest in developing additional diagnostic testing is highly desired.

The Clinical Biochemistry section is a state-of-the-art facility providing diagnostic and consultative services for the Cleveland Clinic Health System (CCHS) and is the central laboratory in Northeast Ohio. The section is comprised by three main laboratories: automated chemistry, special chemistry & biochemical genetics, and immunopathology. We offer ample opportunities for clinical and translational research, innovation, and teaching students, residents, fellows, and allied health staff.  The position commands a competitive salary enhanced by an attractive benefits package and a collegial work environment.  A faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with experience is available at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University.

Responsibilities:

  • Review, interpret, and sign-out prenatal serum screening and biochemical genetics tests
  • Provide clinical consultations to health care professionals
  • Collaborate with health care professionals across the organization
  • Involvement in new test development and validation and assist in troubleshooting of laboratory assays 
  • Oversee quality and regulatory compliance according to institutional policies and federal, state, and local regulations
  • Scholarly activity in the form of education and scientific publication

Requirements:

  • PhD, DO or MD
  • Board certification or eligibility in Clinical Chemistry, Clinical Pathology, Clinical Biochemical Genetics or High Complexity Laboratory Directorship by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry, American Board of Pathology, the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics, or the American Board of Bioanalysis
  • Experience in the development and validation of clinical biochemistry assays
  • Experience in interpretation and troubleshooting of analytical methodologies
