Members of the multispecialty division provide complete perioperative care for patients undergoing a wide variety of surgeries including:

• general surgery

• oral/maxillofacial surgery
• oncologic surgery

The Division of Multispecialty Anesthesiology serves as a foundation for clinical experiences for both introductory and advanced anesthesia residents. We provide care for patients with the highest levels of acuity affording an excellent educational opportunity for our outstanding residents.

Requirements:

• M.D./D.O. or equivalent
• Anesthesiology residency
• Skills in clinical care, research, and/or education
• ABA certification/eligibility
• Credentials to obtain a State of Florida physician's license

Our department comprises more than 90+ clinical faculty, 9 active research faculty, 88 residents, 25 fellows, 75 CRNAs and CAAs, and a support and administrative staff of 40+ people. We are a world-renowned academic department that typically publishes at least 26 books and book chapters, more than 55 manuscripts, and is granted around 5 U.S. patents each year.

Our anesthesiology faculty are trained in a variety of clinical subspecialties including critical care medicine, pediatrics, congenital heart anesthesiology, neuro-anesthesiology, obstetric anesthesiology, and pain medicine. Research interests of our faculty span clinical and basic science, cognition, simulation training, and neurodegenerative disorders.

UF Health Shands Hospital Centers of Emphasis include cancer, women’s and children’s services, heart care, neuromedicine, orthopaedics, and transplant. UF Health Shands Hospital is a private, not-for-profit organization affiliated with the University of Florida. It is part of UF Health, the Southeast’s most comprehensive academic health center, with campuses in Gainesville and Jacksonville.

Gainesville consistently ranks in the top 10 lists of desirable places to live by various magazines and ranking services. It is a medium-sized city in North Central Florida with a population of 132,249. The additional 50,000 University of Florida and 20,000 Santa Fe College students bring the total population close to 200,000 people.
