If it’s possible, you will find it at Atrium Health—the leading community-focused academic healthcare system serving North Carolina and South Carolina. We invite Board Eligible/Board Certified General Surgery Physicians to discover all that we can do when we bring healing hearts, inquisitive minds and progressive visionaries together in our Atrium Health Lincoln practice.

Atrium Health/Advocate Health is an innovative healthcare organization committed to providing health, hope and healing in our communities.  We are committed to Being the Best Place for Care for patients, and the Best Place to Care for our healthcare workforce and teammates.

Small and rural communities face unique challenges in providing access to highest quality, coordinated and collaborative care close to home for patients.  General Surgery represents an essential service to all of our acute inpatient facilities.  Our mission requires that we find innovative solutions to the challenges of surgical care at small community hospitals.  These solutions must advance quality, optimize the care at the local facility and facilitate coordination of care when specialists or tertiary level of care is required.

Atrium Health is recruiting a BC/BE general surgeon interested in emergency general surgery to join our team at AH Lincoln, a 100-bed acute care hospital in Lincolnton, NC.  The surgeon will play a vital role in elevating the care of urgent and emergent general surgical patients at the facility.  This surgeon will cover urgent/emergent general surgical needs and partner with two established general surgeons who participate in call coverage in addition to elective practice.  The two surgeons and their APPs function as a team in a collegial, collaborative environment.

The EGS focused surgeon will work 7days on/7days off schedule, with competitive salary, benefits and bonus structure.  Endoscopy experience is beneficial but not required. The surgeon will provide some limited clinic coverage during the work weeks, primarily for urgent needs and hospital followups.  Surgeons at Lincoln have the benefit of coordination of care with specialists such as interventional radiology, HPB, bariatrics, plastic surgery, colorectal, gynecological oncology and others at two regional tertiary referral centers.

Atrium Health is also committed to the professional development of surgeons.  Through the AH Acute Care Surgery Network, all surgeons providing care of the EGS/trauma/Surgical Critical Care patient have the opportunity to participate in a monthly call, research and education opportunities and specific projects to advance the care or urgent general surgical patients across the system. Leadership structures align community surgeons with mentors locally and across the region and facilitate pathways to impact positive change.  In addition, the AH Medical Group is renowned for its advanced programs around physician leadership development, physician well-being and career development.

With majestic mountains on the west and Lake Norman on the east, Lincolnton is a small town that offers a pleasant lifestyle with plenty of activities.  Lincoln County is known for its rural communities, beautiful natural landscapes, farmland, and forests.  There are ample opportunities to enjoy the outdoors through a network of parks, water activities on the Lake Norman, golf, hunting and fishing, and camping/hiking/mountain biking.

While the people of Lincoln County enjoy all that it has to offer, there are nearby options for expanded activities.  Charlotte is less than 30 minutes away, with its rapidly expanding CLT Douglas International Airport, a multitude of restaurants, entertainment opportunities and professional sports teams in NFL football, NBA basketball, MLS soccer, and minor league baseball, and hockey.

When you join Atrium Health, you will be welcomed into an inclusive culture that celebrates and respects the contributions a diverse team can make together. Practice where your voice is valued, your passion for advancing medicine is rewarded, and you get the resources and support you need to thrive personally and professionally. In our nationally-renowned integrated health system, you can work alongside the most advanced minds in medicine to improve medicine, elevate hope and advance healing—for all.

About Us

After many years of serving the local community, Lincoln Medical Center officially became part of Carolinas HealthCare System in September 2006 and changed its name to Carolinas HealthCare System Lincoln. This transition has resulted in significant advances in the healthcare provided to Lincoln County residents.

In July 2010, Carolinas HealthCare System Lincoln opened a brand new 101-bed hospital and medical office building at 433 McAlister Road. From the beginning, the beautiful contemporary facility was designed, planned and constructed with the community in mind. Many of the hospital’s unique features and programs support this vision including:

  • A link to local history with the building’s exterior, which contains 300,000 reclaimed bricks from a portion of the Belding-Hausman Mill
  • A 1.2-mile public walking trail that encircles the campus, winding past ponds and through natural wooded areas left intact on the land
  • A collaboration by three artists called “A Sense of Place” that depicts the evolution of the original farmland on which the hospital is situated into a place of healing
