St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center (SEMC) is seeking a fellowship trained ABS certified General Surgeon with clinical experience, leadership ability and the vision we share to bring our facility to an American College of Surgeons Verified Level II trauma center.

Founded in 1868, Steward St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center (SEMC) is a 308-bed acute care teaching hospital in the heart of Boston’s Brighton neighborhood and the flagship tertiary care facility of the Steward North Region of Steward Health Care. St. Elizabeth’s has been consistently recognized for providing the highest quality care to our community. Creation of a regional referral center for trauma care is a critical step in expanding our capability to provide tertiary services for the local catchment area and the Steward system hospitals throughout eastern Massachusetts.

St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center enjoys an academic and clinical relationship with Boston Medical Center (BMC) and is a primary teaching hospital for Boston University’s Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. BMC is an American College of Surgeons Verified Adult Level 1 and Pediatric Level 2 trauma center. The BMC Trauma Center has a reputation as one of the country’s finest and has the distinction of being the longest continuously verified Level I trauma program in Boston and the region. The Trauma Medical Director at SEMC will have clinical appointments at both facilities as part of our partnership with the BMC trauma program and both programs will share faculty, residents and expertise. The SEMC trauma chief will be eligible for a faculty appointment in the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.

In addition to being board certified in General Surgery, the qualified candidate must have completed a fellowship in trauma critical care surgery, have demonstrated clinical expertise in treating injured patients along with previous leadership responsibilities and experience in a collaborative team approach to patient care, teaching and scholarly activity.
