The Department of Pathology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is seeking a full-time transfusion medicine physician at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Applicants must have an MD, MD/PhD, or DO degree, have or be eligible for an Ohio medical license upon hire and have demonstrated excellence in clinical care and education. American Board of Pathology certification in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine is required (post-fellowship experience is preferred but not required to be eligible for this position). Attending responsibilities will be shared with three other staff physicians.
Transfusion Medicine clinical services include blood bank and apheresis. OSUWMC performs over 68,000 transfusions annually, supported by our hospital blood bank through a wide range of automated and manual immunohematology testing. The apheresis service performs over 3,200 procedures annually for therapeutic or collection apheresis. Therapeutic procedures include plasma exchange, red blood cell exchange, extracorporeal photopheresis, leukocytapheresis, and LDL-apheresis. Collection procedures include autologous and allogeneic hematopoietic progenitor cell collections and other mononuclear cell collections.
The Transfusion Medicine Service is accredited by the AABB, College of American Pathologists (CAP), and the Foundation for Accreditation in Cellular Therapy (FACT).
The Department of Pathology is a large department within the OSUWMC. The OSUWMC is composed of 1,882 beds, including the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) accredited 306-bed James Cancer Hospital/Solove Research Institute.
