The Occupational Health Medical Director provides both clinic and operational leadership to Ballad Health and Ballad Health Medical Associates (BHMA) Employer Health Services Division and Team Member Health. The Medical Director plays a crucial role in crafting long-term strategies and short-term tactics aimed at growth and improvement of the service line, ultimately enhancing community health outcomes. The Medical Director would also contribute to developing clinical standards of care for the population we serve.
Duties:
- Participate in recruitment and provide ongoing performance feedback and coaching as needed to ensure professional development and retention.
- In collaboration with the Ballad Dyad partner, develop and implement policies and practices that promote employee wellness and general employee safety.
- Collaborate with Ballad Dyad partner in leading and supporting the development of quality initiatives aimed at enhancing both the cost-effectiveness and quality of services provided by Ballad Health, which include:
- Designing and implementing programs that focuses on improving clinical outcomes and safety.
- Collaborating with the operational team to develop strategies to reduce unnecessary cost and ensure the sustainability of health services for Ballad Health.
- Working closely with other healthcare professionals and departments to ensure a cohesive approach to quality improvement that aligns with Ballad Health’s mission and vision.
- Assures that all programs and services comply with relevant regulatory agencies.
- Support administration and marketing teams to secure new business opportunities and maintain existing relationships. This includes researching market trends, understanding community health needs, identifying new accounts, and networking with other healthcare providers and organizations and communicate effectively with the Ballad Health leadership team.
- Provide clinical leadership for Ballad Health’s Occupational Health and Workers Compensation matters. Provide subject matter expertise as well as clinical oversight of Occupational Claims for Workers Compensation.
- Serve as the System Medical Director for enterprise Occupation Claims including fiscal oversight.
- Act as Medical subject-matter expert in Worker’s Compensation matters.
- Work closely with Worker’s Compensation attorney’s and insurers and third-party administrators to ensure that the needs of institution and their employee’s needs are met.
- Act as a Medical Review Officer (MRO) supporting enterprise internal drug testing procedures and external client support. MRO duties include:
- Receiving/Reviewing lab results generated by an employer’s drug testing program and evaluation of medical explanations for certain drug test results.
- Interpreting forensic drug testing results in the context of a regulatory and policy framework.
- Supervise the medical review process and substance abuse testing programs offered by BHMA throughout Tennessee and Virginia, to include supervision of the Medical Review Officer Assistant (MROA).
- Act as a clinical resource to Team Member Employee health, for other departments and client companies. Serve as the designated physician for BHMA Occupational Medicine clinics, onsite programs, and Business Health team members, unless otherwise provided by other physicians contracted with BHMA.
Education/Experience:
- Valid and active Medical License in both Tennessee and Virginia
- Valid and active Board Certification for Occupational Medicine
- Medical license free of sanctions from any healthcare facility or payer
- DEA clear of any restrictions or recent sanctions.
- DOT and MRO certifications required
- Five years minimum experience
