Radiologist (Nuclear Medicine) – Sacramento VA Medical Center - Academic Opportunity

VA Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) is an integrated health care delivery system, offering a comprehensive array of medical, surgical, rehabilitative, mental health and extended care to Veterans in Northern California. 

We are seeking a Diagnostic Radiologist with fellowship training in Nuclear Medicine to join our multi-modality practice at the Sacramento VA Medical Center. The successful candidate will join an academic practice and dedicate approximately 50% of time to Diagnostic Radiology and 50% to Nuclear Medicine. The ideal candidate will have expertise and experience in the performance and interpretation in all modalities of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. There will be didactic in the field of Nuclear Medicine requiring direct supervision of a Nuclear Medicine Resident. VANCHCS is initiating a Nuclear Medicine Radiology Residency beginning July 2023 with our affiliate, the University of California at Davis.

• Work Schedule: 40hrs/week, 0800-1630; infrequent on-call responsibilities (1 week/every 6-7 weeks) from home (back-up if tele-radiology system goes down)

Candidates must: 1) be a US citizen or PRA (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with [38 U.S.C. § 7407(a)]; 2) possess a current, full, unrestricted medical license in any state, and 3)  board eligible/certified in Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, and 4) and confirm vaccination for seasonal influenza and Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), which are both requirements for all Health Care Personnel (HCP) employed by Department of Veterans Affairs. Preferred experience: Board Certified in Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine

Federal Retirement Plan:

• VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits, 2) FERS-RAE basic benefits (pension), and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan
• How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the employee’s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 16.6% of the employee’s salary
• Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2020, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $19,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $25,500.
• The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
• For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
