Saint Alphonsus Medical Group (SAMG) and Saint Alphonsus Medical Center (SAMC) – Ontario have an excellent full-time employment opportunity for a Board Certified or Board Eligible General Surgeon to be part of a vibrant and growing multispecialty group practice located in Ontario, Oregon.

SAMG is a physician led 500+ provider multispecialty group practice with a multi-disciplinary team approach to patient care. This full-spectrum, community based General Surgery practice offers rewarding surgery opportunities, including endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures, balanced with a rural-paced lifestyle. The practice is located in a clinic space adjacent to the hospital. SAMC-Ontario is a Level IV Trauma Center with 50 beds and four operating suites plus endoscopy, new laparoscopic equipment, advanced imaging capabilities and award-winning clinical services. 

This position also provides outreach one day a week to Saint Alphonsus Baker City, a critical access hospital 76 miles to the northwest of Ontario. Baker City has two operating rooms with 24/7 CRNA support for anesthesia and a full-service endoscopy suite.

Support for this opportunity includes 24/7 CRNA support for anesthesia; regional network of surgical subspecialties including surgical oncology, colorectal surgery, upper GI surgery, orthopedics, ENT, and gynecology; Local primary care and specialty clinics, medical oncology; Hospital-based imaging services: 24/7 radiology department; in-house coverage for general radiology and CT; after hours call coverage for Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine (NM); MRI; Breast Care Center; X-ray (CR and DR image capture); and emergency department.

The schedule for this opportunity includes a traditional work week, Monday through Friday, with a minimum of 32 hours of patient contact time. This includes clinic, procedures, and consults. One day a week the candidate will travel to Baker City for clinic and surgery/endoscopy. There is a requirement for seven days of call per month including a weekend at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center – Ontario.

Requirements for this opportunity include Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree; successful completion of an accredited ACGME/AOA General Surgery Residency program; Board certification through the American Board of Surgery (ABS) or the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery (AOBS), or obtain such certification within 5 years of employment; obtain Oregon and Idaho medical licensure and granting of privileges at SAMC Ontario and SAMC Baker City as well as other affiliated hospitals as needed; valid controlled substance registration with Board of Pharmacy and DEA; interest in a broad-spectrum general surgery and endoscopy practice.

Ontario, located in Oregon’s only county inside the Mountain time zone, and in Malheur County Oregon, has a 2023 population of 11,650. Ontario is currently growing at a rate of 0.1% annually and its population has increased by 0.31% since the most recent census, which recorded a population of 11,614 in 2020.
