South Texas Health System Children's Hospital is located in the Rio Grande Valley, at the southern tip of Texas, and is part of the South Texas Health System. The 107-bed, freestanding pediatric hospital opened adjacent to South Texas Health System Edinburg in March 2006. The first of its kind in South Texas, South Texas Health System Children's Hospital features a four-story pediatric tower, a dedicated pediatric emergency department, specialty pediatric services and advanced technology, including the Valleys first 32-slice CT and radio-fluoroscopy room. The hospital features a Joint Commission certified asthma program, Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Institute.
