Mission or Goal of Unit: VCU's Department of Pediatrics is committed to training and developing the next generation of dedicated pediatricians, caring for each child as if they were our own and advancing the specialty and its myriad subspecialties through innovative research. Our central hub is at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU in downtown Richmond, with satellite locations and community clinics all throughout Central Virginia.

Chief Purpose of this position: The Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU is seeking two individuals interested in a PRN position and contribute to Pediatric Hospital Medicine’s program success. Candidates should be eager to join and augment a vibrant academic Hospital Medicine division that provides clinical coverage within a Pediatric Medical Center that has recently experienced significant dynamic growth within a new inpatient hospital which opened in April of 2023.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Clinical: Faculty member will maintain a practice in Pediatric Hospital Medicine and willing to work weekends/nights.
  • Teaching: Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in the area of Pediatric Hospital Medicine. Faculty member will provide teaching and mentorship to Medical Students, Residents, and Fellows during clinical service time. 
  • Research: Research aspirations are encouraged but not required; support for these activities will depend upon prior accomplishments and potential. 
  • Service: Faculty member will be eligible to serve on departmental or School of Medicine committees when appropriate, as well in a professional capacity in their field, e.g.: reviewer, conference organizer, etc.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Experience in Pediatric Hospital Medicine
  • Experience with clinical care of patients ages birth to 21
  • Experience with education of house staff, medical students, and others
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Hospital Medicine
  • Previous experience in an academic medical center
  • Demonstrated excellent teaching skills

The Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Pediatrics is dedicated to providing comprehensive, compassionate, state-of-the-art pediatric health care, research and education at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, a full-service children’s hospital within the VCU Medical Center. CHoR's outpatient pavilion is the largest, most advanced outpatient facility dedicated to children in the region. The new pavilion includes diagnostic and treatment services for children, bringing together the majority of outpatient pediatric services currently on the MCV campus to one location. It is designed to meet the unique health care needs of children, and to provide Richmond the most advanced and coordinated care possible:

The facility is a 640,000 square foot, multi-story building and includes a 7-story parking deck with more than 600 spaces.
The new pavilion houses 72 exam rooms arranged in clinic pods to optimize a multidisciplinary care model. Each pod includes 12 exam rooms, a treatment room, support space and a centralized clinical team.
The new pavilion features pediatric-dedicated imaging, surgical and endoscopy procedure rooms, as well as pediatric faculty offices.
The pavilion is designed with future expansion in mind. It can accommodate additional clinic pods and operating rooms, as demand for these services increases.
