Gastroenterology Opportunities in Growing South Baptist Hospital in Sunny Plant City, Florida

BayCare Medical Group, the largest and most respected physician-led medical group in the Tampa Bay area, is seeking two dynamic Gastroenterologists to enhance and expand GI services at South Florida Baptist Hospital, a 146-bed hospital located in the growing community of Plant City, Florida.    

Some highlights of this exciting opportunity include:

• These are new positions to help meet the overwhelming need in the Plant City and surrounding communities. 
• South Florida Baptist Hospital is a brand-new replacement hospital that opened in the Spring of 2024.  
• The hospital includes three endoscopy suites with ample scheduling available, in addition to a full complement of scopes, and experienced endoscopy staff.  
• ER call responsibilities will be 1:4, shared with community Gastroenterologists.  The ER at South Florida Baptist Hospital is on schedule for 38,000 visits annually.  
• One single Hospitalist group onsite.
• The office is attached to the hospital, in a multi-specialty medical office suite.

The development of the hospital in the 1940s is the story of a noteworthy partnership between many generous, civic-minded citizens of Plant City and the dedicated financial support of the Florida Baptist Church Convention. The entire Plant City community rallied behind the idea of building the city's first hospital in the post WWII years. In 2003, South Florida Baptist Hospital reached its 50-year milestone.

Plant City is located in central Florida in the same county, Hillsborough, as Tampa.  Our hospital is part of a health system called BayCare.  We have 148 beds, with a NEW ER that opened May 2, 2006, a 5-year-old surgery center, a new pediatric floor and in the process of building a 19 bed ICU.  We are located off I-4 20 minutes from Tampa and 45 minutes for Orlando and the gulf coast beaches only 40 minutes away!  There is a great quality of life here with the opportunity to be in two metropolitan areas in 20 minutes. 

Area Attractions

The new hospital is located off Exit 22 of Interstate-4, east of the intersection of E. Sam Allen Road and North Park Road in a highly visible, high growth area less than four miles from the current location. An 85,000 square-foot medical office building will also be at the new site. The new building will have 26 ICU beds and a 30-bed emergency department. We’re also adding four interventional/cardiac Cath suites and an 8-bed surgery center. It gives us room to add medical office space for outpatient lab services, physician offices, rehab and wound care services, among others.
