Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon
Blessing Hospital – Quincy, Illinois

Position Overview:
Blessing Hospital is seeking a skilled and dedicated Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon to join our team and provide trauma and general orthopedic call coverage. This position primarily involves managing acute orthopedic cases presenting through the Emergency Department, with a strong focus on general orthopedics, including hip fractures, hemiarthroplasties, wrist and ankle fractures, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 24-hour call coverage, 7 days per week, with call coverage relief at least 1 night per week from colleagues.
  • Evaluate and treat a range of orthopedic trauma patients, including cases resulting from falls, hunting accidents, and motor vehicle/ATV/UTV accidents.
  • Perform surgeries and procedures for general orthopedic injuries as needed, averaging:
    • 2 cases per weekday
    • 3 cases per weekend (approx. 1.5 per day)
  • Manage hospital consults (e.g., infected joints, undiagnosed orthopedic pain), with a required response time of within 24 hours, or sooner if requested by the ordering physician.
  • Maintain trauma response times:
    • Level I trauma – 30-minute response time
    • Level II trauma – response as requested
    • All other cases – response time at the physician’s discretion
  • Conduct follow-up visits with patients in clinic during the post-call week, typically on Monday and Tuesday, with Wednesday through Sunday off.
  • Block Schedule with 10+ days off per month

Call Expectations:

  • While the position involves being on call, after-hours call-ins are minimal.
  • The call schedule allows for flexibility and built-in recovery time following call shifts.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Orthopedic Surgery
  • Fellowship training in Trauma preferred but not required
  • Able to work independently and manage a broad spectrum of orthopedic injuries
  • Committed to providing timely, compassionate, and high-quality care to trauma and emergency patients

Compensation:

  • Base Salary:  $850,000 - $930,000
