Division Chief of Neuroradiology - Associate or Full Professor

The Division of Neuroradiology in the Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a faculty position as Chief of Neuroradiology with 10 fellowship trained CAQ’d faculty, a full time Neuroradiology procedural PA and 5 ACGME fellows. Rank and tenure are dependent upon qualifications and experience. The selected candidate will have a strong clinical and operations background, along with research experience in adult and pediatric diagnostic neuroradiology to help advance the academic missions of the Department and continue to grow robust internal and external collaborations. 

The UVa Health System boasts a large, renowned neuroscience staff, which includes neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons, neurologists, MR physicists, and ENT surgeons. It serves as a referral hospital for the Mid-Atlantic region, specializing in neurological, neuro-oncological, craniofacial, and otolaryngological care. An active neuroradiology training program is available, offering five ACGME-approved neurodiagnostic fellowship positions. The division provides clinical coverage for imaging techniques related to the brain, spine, head, and neck. Specialized imaging services are available for patients’ experiencing headaches, seizures, and cerebrovascular conditions, such as strokes, aneurysms, and carotid atherosclerotic disease. Neuroradiologists in the division utilize advanced imaging techniques, including computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), perfusion imaging, spectroscopy, diffusion tensor imaging, and functional MR imaging. They provide imaging services for both adult and pediatric patients with conditions such as brain, head, and neck tumors, traumatic brain injuries, and neurodegenerative diseases.

In addition to imaging, the division performs non vascular procedural work, involving spine, face, and head neck. These include CT and USG guided image guided biopsies of the spine/ head/ neck as well as the entire gamut of fluoroscopically guided spine procedures including lumbar punctures, myelograms, targeted blood patches and lumbar drains.

This position will come with protected academic time commensurate with expectation of scholarly productivity and extramural funding to support these activities. The individual will also participate in and oversee the physician peer review process for the Division, partner with the Health System staff to ensure optimization and monitoring of specific imaging protocols, quality control, and compliance with federal and accreditation agencies pertaining to neuroradiology. Participation in multidisciplinary conferences and tumor boards is expected.

Candidates must have an MD, be fellowship trained in Neuroradiology, board-certified/board-eligible by the American Board of Radiology (ABR), and be ABR CAQ eligible. Candidates must be able to obtain a license in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their experience and ability in performing image guided head/neck and spine procedures. A proven record of garnering funding to support research, high-impact peer-reviewed publications, and demonstrated excellence in teaching and clinical excellence is preferable. The Division Chief will be expected to help us grow Neuroradiology clinical, education, research, and community programs.
