Physician – Psychiatrist Geriatrics Martinez VA Clinic, Martinez CA

The VA Northern California Health Care System (NCHCS) is excited to announce an opening for a full-time, board-certified Geriatric Psychiatrist to join our dedicated and compassionate team. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of our Veterans, particularly those in the Community Living Center (CLC) and Home-Based Primary Care (HBPC) programs. The ideal candidate will be a value-driven, recovery- and diversity-oriented psychiatrist with a passion for geriatric care, energy, and a commitment to excellence in service delivery.

As a consultant for the CLC and HBPC programs, the Geriatric Psychiatrist will provide both in-person and virtual care to Veterans, focusing on medically complex, homebound elderly patients. The position is divided with 30% of the time dedicated to providing psychiatric consultation in the CLC, an inpatient rehabilitation and skilled care unit, and 70% focusing on virtual care through the HBPC program. The HBPC program delivers primary and palliative care to Veterans in their homes, helping to reduce hospitalizations and institutionalizations.

The VA values candidates with a collaborative approach and a strong commitment to fostering mental health support for Veterans facing conditions such as dementia with challenging behaviors, depression, anxiety, and psychosis. In addition to clinical work, this position provides an opportunity to supervise HBPC psychologists, offering valuable administrative time for mentorship and guidance.

This position is ideal for individuals seeking a fulfilling career where they can support Veterans while benefiting from a balanced work schedule, competitive salary, and ample opportunities for academic appointment with VA affiliates. For those completing or intending to complete a Geriatric Psychiatry fellowship, this is an excellent opportunity to further your expertise and contribute to the field. There is no on-call requirement, allowing for a healthy work-life balance.

If you are a psychiatrist who is dedicated to improving the mental health and well-being of geriatric patients and are interested in a rewarding and impactful career, we encourage you to apply and join us in serving those who have served our country.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm; Possible one day telework can be granted depending on the provider availability.
