Pediatric Neurosurgery

The Division of Neurosurgery at Children’s Mercy Kansas City is seeking an experienced, fellowship-trained, board-certified pediatric neurosurgeon to join our highly collaborative and well-established team.

Position Highlights:

Join a growing team of four pediatric neurosurgeons supported by a robust team of advanced practice providers. State-of-the-art operating rooms, equipped with:

  • BrainLab & Stealth guidance systems
  • Zeiss microscope & OrbEye exoscope
  • Minop Endoscopes
  • ROSA robotic surgical assistant
  • O-arm intraoperative imaging
  • Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT)
  • On-site endovascular neurosurgery and off-site Gamma Knife radiosurgery

Diverse and high-acuity case mix, covering the full breadth of pediatric neurosurgery, with an annual surgical volume exceeding 800 cases, including:

  • Instrumented spine surgery
  • Functional neurosurgery (DBS & epilepsy surgery)
  • Spasticity management
  • Revascularization for moyamoya disease
  • Craniofacial and complex skull base surgery
  • Fetal closure of myelomeningocele

Call & Clinical Support:

  • 1:5 call schedule with primary call fully covered by neurosurgery residents

Academic & Leadership Opportunities:

  • Candidates should demonstrate a track record of clinical excellence, research, education, and leadership.
  • Interest in programmatic development with internal leadership opportunities expected.
  • Interest in directorship and programmatic development of a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship program is preferred.
  • Dedicated, protected research time may be available through the Children’s Mercy Research Institute (CMRI) for candidates with an established research portfolio.
  • Faculty appointments through the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine and University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) available, with opportunities for mentorship and teaching.
  • Children’s Mercy serves as the pediatric neurosurgery training site for the KUMC neurosurgery residency program.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Fellowship-trained, board-certified pediatric neurosurgeon
  • Minimum of several years of post-fellowship experience (Graduating fellows will not be considered at this time)
  • Commitment to excellence in clinical care, research, education, and leadership
  • Interest in directorship and programmatic development of a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship program
